Basement Finishing in Collingwood, Ontario

Turn your unfinished basement into the room your family actually uses, built by a local team that handles it from framing to final coat of paint.

Basement finishing collingwood

Your Collingwood Basement Is Your Biggest Untapped Space

Basement finishing in Collingwood means turning an unfinished lower level into livable space: a rec room, guest suite, home office, gym, or extra bathroom. Phoenix Decks & Contracting Inc. handles the full job, including framing, insulation, electrical coordination, drywall, flooring, trim, and paint.

Most homes in Collingwood have a basement doing little more than storing boxes and holiday decorations. With the right plan, that same square footage becomes the place where the kids hang out, guests stay after a ski weekend, or you finally get a quiet home office.

We’re a local team already building in the Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, and Blue Mountain area. We know the homes, the climate, and what homeowners here actually want from their space.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got Questions? We've Got Answers.

Planning a Basement Finishing in Collingwood Here are answers to the questions homeowners ask us most before starting their basement finishing project.

Do I need a permit to finish my basement in Collingwood?

In many cases, yes. Projects that add bedrooms, bathrooms, or structural, plumbing, or electrical changes typically need a building permit from the Town of Collingwood. We’ll confirm what applies to your project and help you through the process.

How long does it take to finish a basement?

Most basement projects take about 4 to 8 weeks Timing depends on the size of the space, the layout, whether a bathroom is included, and permit timelines.

How much does it cost to finish a basement in Collingwood?

Cost depends on size, layout, and finishes. The best way to get an accurate number is a free on-site quote.

Can you add a bathroom to my basement?

Yes. We can add anything from a small powder room to a full bathroom with a walk-in shower. Plumbing rough-ins are easiest to plan early, so it’s worth deciding before framing starts.

Is my basement too damp or low to finish?

Not necessarily. We check for moisture and measure ceiling height at your free consultation, then tell you honestly what’s possible and what needs addressing first.

Can I turn my basement into a legal bedroom or guest suite?

Yes, as long as it meets Ontario Building Code requirements, including egress window, fire safety, and alarm rules. We build to these standards.

When should I start my basement project?

Fall and winter is a great time. Starting now means you can enjoy the finished space by spring, and it doesn’t compete with outdoor deck season.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had heard great things about Phoenix before hiring him and his team, knew several people who had used them, and even knew they had built the deck at my previous home before I took possession of it. I had even consulted Phoenix, himself, on a base for my hot tub at my last house and he guided me to a better, more affordable solution that didn’t give him the work, but would be better value for me. So when I needed a deck at my new home, I knew I had to hire Phoenix and his team, and they absolutely lived up to their reputation.

Before I had even taken possession of my new home, Phoenix met with me to start planning the deck so that everything could move as quickly as possible once I got the keys. He was proactive about the permit process and took the time to walk me through multiple design and pricing options to find the best solution within my budget.

What I appreciated most was the amount of thought he put into helping me make smart, long-term decisions. We discussed the pros and cons of building a smaller interim deck and expanding it later, different options for adding privacy, and waterproofing systems that would keep the area underneath the deck dry and usable. He priced out the different approaches and helped me understand where it made sense to spend more now versus where I could save, always focusing on getting the best overall value for my money.

Once construction started, I was genuinely blown away by how quickly the team worked. In just days, I had a massive, beautiful deck, and the quality of the workmanship was impeccable. The attention to detail and finished product exceeded my expectations.

From the early planning and budgeting through to construction, the entire experience was fantastic. If you’re looking for a contractor who is knowledgeable, practical, responsive and takes real pride in the quality of his work, I would absolutely recommend Phoenix.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Both sides of our old fence collapsed due to high winds, so contacted Phoenix for an estimate. He was very professional and after getting another estimate, went with him. His crew showed up, removed the old fence, drilled holes for the new posts, then the crew showed up on day 3 and worked mostly in the rain to finish all the walls and gates. This was obviously NOT their first rodeo, and I would recommend this company for any job like this!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had Phoenix build our deck a couple of years ago, and I can honestly say it was one of the best investments we've made in our home. Even after Canadian winters, it still looks incredible and remains solid, level, and beautifully finished.

From the initial design and planning to the final installation, Phoenix was professional, reliable, and meticulous with every detail. The craftsmanship is outstanding, and we've received countless compliments from friends, family, and neighbours.

What impressed me most was the quality of the build. The structure is extremely sturdy, the glass and aluminum railings were installed perfectly, and the entire project was completed with a level of care that's hard to find these days.

If you're looking for someone who takes pride in their work and delivers a beautiful, long-lasting product, I would highly recommend Phoenix. We would hire him again without hesitation.

Thank you, Phoenix, for creating a space our family continues to enjoy year after year!
